LV1 – LV Live Jointing Course, Single and Three Phase Services

This course is for candidates to develop the practical skills and knowledge to:

  • use live working techniques
  • use live working tools safely and correctly
  • improve their awareness of safe systems of work
  • prepare, complete single phase or three phase services from waveform / wavecon
  • prepare, complete single and three phase sub service straight joints or pot ends
  • prepare, complete single phase or three phase cut outs

 

Materials

Candidates are required to provide the necessary materials for all cable jointing courses.

Alternatively we can provide materials for customers at an extra cost.

Course Content

The candidate will:

• Understand and demonstrate personal safety including the basics of on-site safety requirements, hand tools, resins and personal hygiene
• Understand the basic principles and the use of test instruments including earth loop, megger and test lamps and evaluate results.
• Demonstrate test procedures for resistance, continuity, earth loop and polarity
• Understand visual cable identification (cable depths, markers, tiles)
• Demonstrate live working procedures and when they are required
• Understand when they can work on damaged/faulty apparatus
• Demonstrate they can strip cables
• Fit joint boxes
• Mix and pour the resin
• Demonstrate they can complete a single-phase cut out including jointing instructions and procedures
• Demonstrate they can complete a single-phase sub-service pot end
• Demonstrate they can complete a single-phase sub-service straight joint including jointing instructions and procedures
• Demonstrate they can complete a three-phase sub-service straight joint including jointing instructions and procedures
• Demonstrate they can make cable ends safe
• Demonstrate they can complete a single-phase service joint on to three-phase Wavecon mains
• Demonstrate they can complete a three-phase service joint on to three-phase Wavecon mains
• Demonstrate they can complete service pot ends, single and three-phase

Aim

At the end of this course delegates will be able to demonstrate:

  • An ability to complete LV joints live
  • The use of safety equipment
  • Identification of electrical cables

At the end of this course delegates will understand:

  • Safe working techniques
  • Live Working Techniques
  • The correct use of tools and equipment

Participants

Individuals or clients nominated persons who are required to work on live Low Voltage cable systems

Certification

Candidates will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance and Report to provide evidence towards competency
